Humber College takes first set 26-24 over Mystics

Humber College took the opening set 26-24 against Mount Saint Vincent University as the CCAA Women’s National Volleyball championship kicked off at Holland College Centre for Engagement today.

The first match at 1 p.m. had the No. 2 ranked Humber Hawks against the No. 7 ranked MSVU Mystics before a crowd estimated at 250 fans.

It was a tight opening set with MSVU taking a quick 4-1 lead.

The back and forth battle continued with the Mystics controlling the lead for the majority of the opening set.

Down the stretch the match went back and forth, exchanging points with the Mystics keeping the lead until late in the opening set.

With a 24-23 lead the Mystics had a chance to take the set, but a faulty serve opened the door for the Hawks.

With the Hawks finally tying the match they took a 25-24 lead, winning the next rally point to take the opening set 26-24.
