Humber College defeated the Mount Saint Vincent University as the CCAA Women’s National Volleyball championship kicked off at Holland College Centre for Engagement today.
The No. 2 ranked Hawks won the first set 26-24, the second set 25-22 and the third set 25-21.
After the Hawks took the second set it set up the do-or-die scenario for the Mystics.
The Mystics jumped out quickly taking a 7-1 lead. But the Hawks battled back in a back and forth match eventually tying the third set at 15.
The battle continued with the Hawks taking a 21-19 after a timeout called by the Mystics.
The Hawks took a 23-20 lead.
After the Mystics were able to battle back to be down just three, 24-21.
But it was all for not as the Hawks were able to get the match point and win the third set of the match 25-21.
It gave the Hawks a 3-0 set win, taking the first match of the day.
In the first set, the Mystics took a quick 4-1 lead.
The back and forth battle continued with the Mystics controlling the lead for the majority of the opening set.
Down the stretch the match went back and forth, exchanging points with the Mystics keeping the lead until late in the opening set.
With a 24-23 lead the Mystics had a chance to take the set, but a faulty serve opened the door for the Hawks.
With the Hawks finally tying the match they took a 25-24 lead, winning the next rally point to take the opening set 26-24.
