The Holland College men’s basketball team defeated the University of Saint John New Brunswick 101-57 on Oct. 9th Charlottetown.

The team was lead in scoring by Stephon Smith, who finished with a game high 18 points, and UPEI transfer Jayden Nordin, who 15 scored points and added four assists in the victory.

The team is getting better defensively and the chemistry is improving every game, Nordin said.

“Even though it’s still early, we need to adapt the mindset of approaching every game like it’s playoffs.”

Hurricanes new recruit Travis Adams from Halifax is happy about the progress the team is making moving toward the 2015-16 regular season.

If practices continue going the way they are, there’s no celling for this team, Adams said.

“All we have to do is keep working hard and remain a family, that’s what we yell coming out of our huddles.”

The Hurricanes kept the momentum going against Mt. Allison University on Oct. 10th in Charlottetown, defeating the Mounties 100-60.

The Hurricanes were lead in scoring by Addams, who finished the game with 20 points and seven rebounds.

Hurricane’s Head coach Josh Whittey was pleased with his team’s general performance, but said there is room for improvement.

Fast paced basketball is going to separate the team from the pack, so slow starts are not an option, Whittey said.

“We have to be hungrier than every team we face if we want to repeat as champions again.”
