Not even a little rain or colder-than-usual temperatures could stop Ali Eftekhar from supporting his political party of choice.
“It’s great; that’s nature,” he said.
Eftekhar had committed to hula-hoop on the corner of University Avenue and Grafton Street from noon straight until 6 p.m. He was also dressed completely in green, from a green bandana on his head to green sweatpants.
He said he came up with the idea of hula-hooping to support the Green Party when he found out there was going to be an election. In fact, at the time Eftekhar didn’t know how to hula-hoop.
“I’m actually a beginner in hula-hooping. I only started a month and a week ago.”
Eftekhar said this was a way to raise awareness for a great party, and to promote exercise.
As for hula hooping for all six hours, he said he’s going to do his best not to stop.
“Maybe if I need to take a bathroom break or something like that.”
Eftekhar said he decided to go Green because they care about the environment.
“Environment is the most important thing, that’s our issue right now and no one is paying attention to that. The Green Party is paying attention to that.”
He also said the Green Party is focusing on exercise and living healthy.
“Active living can prevent a lot of things, that can save a lot of money for the government.”
Eftekhar mentioned other issues on the Green’s agenda such as women’s rights and social justice.
“These are just really simple issues that should have been addressed a long time ago, and the Green Party has the greatest ideas out of all the parties.”
