The Holland Hurricanes will open their first round playoff series in the IJHL Playoffs March 5 at the Pownal Sports Centre when they take on the Western Red Wings with puck drop set for 8 p.m.
The Hurricanes took the season series with the Red Wings five games to three, while outscoring the Wings 28-26.
Hurricanes Coach Ryan Maxwell feels home ice will not be a big factor in this matchup, but also feels good about being able to open up the playoffs on home ice.
“The whole home ice thing doesn’t really seem to be a factor in this league, all teams have shown they can win on the road and at home, this will be another one of those.”
The Canes finished off the regular season back on Feb. 12 against this same Western team, winning by a final score of 5-2.
Canes forward Ryan Trowsdale knows this Wings team is going to come out with a jump, and that he and his team need to respond well and just play their game.
“We have had success against this Western squad throughout the year, and that needs to continue for obvious reasons, we need to come right out and play our kind of hockey, if we do that we should have the same success.”
Goaltending has been a back and forth situation with the Canes both netminders this season have gotten equal opportunities.
Dan McCarthy, who is expected to get the nod from Coach Maxwell in Game 1 likes his play as of late and knows it needs to continue.
“With the long break that we have had between games it was good to get in a couple practices especially one last one before Thursday night.”
If you can’t make it out to the game be sure to tune into the live broadcast at coverage will come to 15 minutes prior to puck drop.
