The Halifax Mooseheads scored a 3-2-overtime victory against the Charlottetown Islanders at the Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown March 12.
In overtime, Halifax broke the tie when Jonathan Drouin scored 49 seconds into the period, with assists from Nikolaj Ehlers and MacKenzie Weegar.
Goalie Eric Brassard said the team played well all throughout the game.
“We had our chances and it was a good game.”
He said he thinks he played OK.
“My teammates helped me a lot, so it was a good game.”
Defenceman Kevin Laliberté said he doesn’t feel great about the loss.
“But we got one point which is a point for us in the playoff push. For sure we wanted two points.”
He said they will be more improved for their next game.
“It was a good game for us, so try to move on and focus on the game against Bathurst.”
In the first period, the score was tied 1-0, with the goal by Halifax player Timo Meier assisted by Andrew Ryan and Nikolaj Ehlers. There was one penalty for Charlottetown player Mike DiPaolo, and three penalties for Halifax players Brandon Vuic, Jacob Jacques and MacKenzie Weegar. DiPaolo and Vuic faught which led to their penalties.
In the second period, Charlottetown scored two goals, making the score 2-1. Spenser Cobbold scored at 19:03 with an assist from Daniel Sprong, and Troy Vance scored at 3:23 with assists from Daniel Sprong and Antony Cortese. With 56 seconds left, Halifax player Andrew Ryan tied the game 2-2, with assists from Jonathan Drouin and Jesse Lussier. Charlottetown players Guillaume Rioux-Legault and Alexandre Goulet, and Halifax players Nikolaj Ehlers and Andrew Ryan all received two minute penalties.
In the third period, the score remained 2-2, and Halifax player Alexandre Goulet received a penalty.
