Raiders roll to 89-38 win over Axemen as high school basketball champions begin at Holland College

Summerside’s Three Oaks Axemen lost to the Charlottetown Rural Raiders on Feb. 28 by a score of 89-38 in the first game of the high school provincial championships held at Holland College Charlottetown.
The first period was the closest for the two teams, ending at 21-14.
In the second period the Rural Raiders added to their lead. It was 46-19 at half-time. During a halftime interview, fans Kristina Weatherbie and her twin sister Joanna were watching the game.
She was here to watch her nephew, Logan MacDonald, Kristina said.
“There were some intense moments, but it looks like Rurals took the lead.”
Friends Lindsay, Madison, Maria were on their free period. They looked happy to see their team winning.
“I don’t know much about basketball. I just came to support the team,” said Lindsay.
Despite continued pressure from Three Oaks, the Raiders continued adding points to the scoreboard. The third period ended at 73-32.
By the fourth period both teams were visibly tired, but continued to push. The game ended 89-38.
Basketball fan Priyanka Patel said she really enjoyed the game.
“I think it was a well played, energetic game. A lot of teamwork and effort from both sides,” said Patel.
“Those boys played hard today.”
