Charlottetown’s radio station Hot 105.5 will be playing original and cover songs from popular artists performed by local artists each Thursday evening prior to ECMA week, airing at 8p.m.
Meaghan Blanchard is one of the artists who will perform, said Myles Mackinnon, the operations manager for Ocean 100 & Hot 105.5, Newcap Radio.
“We can’t wait to see what she is doing.”
The idea comes from BBC in England.
Mackinnon would like to make the radio event something to feature all year long.
“Since we are dealing with an audience that might not have much exposure with folk music.”
Another new event that the ECMA week will bring to the Island this year is a Musician’s Hockey Game, said Jennifer Evans, general manager at Newcap Radio.
“It’s an opportunity for families to become a part of the music week events.”
The event will take place April 5, at the MacLauchlan Arena in Charlottetown.
CBC will be featuring a special concert called Heroes. It will air at 8 p.m. on April 4. It is a two-hour live show, said Jim Ferguson, executive producer of news at CBC.
The show will broadcast live performances and interviews across the Atlantic Provinces.
CBC makes sure people are covering all aspects of the ECMA, said Ferguson.
“It’s a big job covering the event.”
CBC will be airing different concerts throughout the Atlantic Provinces, said Ferguson.
“Here’s to a great East Coast Music Week.”
