P.E.I. band Paper Lions were among the Island musicians nominated for East Coast Music Awards at the Charlottetown Convention Centre on Feb. 18.
The press conference featured the nominee announcements and performances from Erin Costelo, Paper Lions and Les Hôtesses d’Hilaire.
Jennifer Evans, one of the co-chairs, said the events are coming along.
The event is still looking for volunteers, she said.
“There is still time to get involved in ECMW.”
Myles MacKinnon, operations manager at Ocean 100 and Hot 105, said he enjoys seeing everyone with the free drinks and refreshments.
“Just imagine what the actual event is going to be like.”
He said it was honour to be presenting at the press conference.
“Music is our life.”
He spoke about the new Hot Lounge on the Hot 105.5 that features a live session with local musicians. They play an acoustic cover of a song and an original song.
So far, the Hot Lounge has hosted The Meds and Barry O’Brien on the program.
MacKinnon later added the program is meant to help local musicians.
“We need to do a better job of supporting the local music scene.”
Jim Ferguson, senior manager at CBC P.E.I., said they will host many CBC programs during East Coast Music Week.
“CBC is excited to be part of this.”
Ferguson later said CBC was a founding partner in broadcasting East Coast Music Week.
“We’ve been there since Day 1.”
Their responsibility is to outreach to other regions in Canada by providing coverage of the awards.
“We’ve got a really big role to play.”
Matthew Beardsley, producer at Eastlink TV, said they are proud to cover the events.
“As an Islander, I can say for everyone how excited I am for East Coast Music Week.”
He announced the host for the Awards Gala will be Seamus O’Regan.
“We look forward to having Seamus host the East Coast Music Awards.”
Penny Walsh McGuire, executive director of P.E.I. 2014, announced the Fan’s Choice Awards.
There are many artists to choose from, she said.
“Fans will have some tough decisions to make when voting.
“We encourage fans to start voting.”
