Racy look at how Islanders - well, some of them, sometimes - talk has attracted tens of thousands of hits on the popular website YouTube. Screen capture from Jan. 26, 2012.

Dominique Girouard had an idea when bought a new audio device for his video camera. He and his friends were having some beers when he decided to try it out.
They started to film themselves in their natural “drunk” habitat yelling out “Islander quotes.”
The actors in the video are Girouard, 31, Jarren Richards, 31, Robbie Carruthers, 35 and Micah Martin, 31. They all grew up in P.E.I. and have known each other since kindergarten. Recently they have been moving back and forth from Toronto.
The day after filming they looked at the footage and they thought it was hilarious. They did some editing and Girouard decided to put it on his Vemo account naming it “P.E.I encyclopedia.
“We had to edit it so many things because the things we were saying were just too disgusting,” said Girouard.
The sayings are vulgar and rough in the style of the TV show Trailer Park Boys.
Two days after uploading the video it reached 15,000 views. Every day after that it reached another 3,000. They had a similar success on YouTube with one video reaching 25,294 views by Jan. 19 and the other 11,833. The boys couldn’t believe it and after watching themselves on the video they realized they were funny, something they never noticed.
They now have two episodes online, Intelligence and Salutations. They also have two videos, which are previews for upcoming videos.
“We uploaded these videos so people could hear the Islander lingo,” said Girouard, “People mistaken our slang for Newfies.”
Ryan MacQuarrie from Charlottetown said, “The videos are so funny because they’re so true.”
He and his friends love the videos and quote them all the time.
“They’re so funny and the people who don’t think so are the people who talk just like that and say those sayings,” said Justin Cormier from Charlottetown.
The boys are trying to upload weekly and have a lot of ideas for future episodes.
